Getting closer to my goal for the body wood, but not quite what I want.. I'm giving it a little drying time to see if it mellows out a bit.. I'm pretty close.. Pics to follow...

Yep.. the last one is the best pic, but all the woods are the same pieces. All three of them look completely different from different angles. That's why I took the time to mix a few different dyes. I want it to look like a cohesive unit from every angle, not like the same species, but complimentary shades with cool textures. The top wood goes from almost blonde to a medium/dark color. The ash has a rainbow of colors, browns, beiges, whites, bright yellows.. and the maple neck has a sort of Jekyll/Hyde personality.. It's a challenge, but that's what I love... ;D

Just saw your post, Jeremy. Glad you like it. I'm trying to get that cool, old barn look going- without looking beat up.. I think these shades will do the trick.

Well, I'm waiting for the pickup rings (in transit) before I cut the pickups in- everything else is here.. Next week should be exciting. I don't want to do any final shaping or sanding beforehand, as the router will mark up the wood. Better to chill for a few days, I mixed plenty of the dyes and oils. Getting close now.
I rounded the heel, but didn't "contour" it. If I start shaving it down, there will be an unsightly seam where the back wood stops and meets the ash. I held the assembled guitar and neck, and it doesn't seem like it will affect playability. The rounded corner and edge made a big difference.

As I continue to look at it, I'm tempted to do a very subtle amber burst.. any thoughts?

I think that would look cool, but again it is not mine. When you do a burst do you use dye of tinted nitro? Just curious.Maybe you don't want to divulge your secrets

Just curious.Maybe you don't want to divulge your secrets I've done bursts with dyes, stains, sprays, solid colors.. each one is unique, depending on what I'm trying to achieve. This one would likely be a hand applied dye under nitro, if I do it.
