Well, I finally decided to go high tech, and get a good moisture meter. Man.. too many freakin' choices...
We've been stockpiling some really nice wood over the winter months, and I'm starting to prototype the Tulip shaped guitars.. I can usually tell by the look and feel of the wood if it's ready, but the temperature differences and different suppliers are getting to be a little much for me. There is too much work on each one to take chances, so I started looking in earnest for a good meter. These things run the gamut even worse than guitars. Harbor Freight has one for $12.99, Woodcraft starts at $35, Berland's start at $120, and they climb in features and price from there.
Seeing how I only want to bite the bullet on this once, I'm leaning toward a better quality unit. Too many choices...
I found a pinless meter for about $170, that will accurately give moisture content readings without piercing the wood, which seems to be a decent unit.. I hate the idea of sticking pins into expensive wood. Off to the store I go.

Looks like a nice meter.. I got a Wagner L609 Pinless Moisture Meter. Came with a booklet and a CD. Guess I need some learnin' now. Chris likes it, he has been measuring everything from his brother's head to my laptop..
