Tried any of Jim Wagner's WCR pickups yet? www.crcoils.com/New_PIckups/new_pickups.htmlI just ordered his Crossroads set for the "Unfinished Tele" Figured I'd give this one a chance with a good set of humbuckers since I'm finally pretty happy with the results so far. I'll keep the closely spaced volume controls, toss the tone control, and add a 3-way Oak Tele switch. It'll be the first time I've tried a backwards control plate. I like where the volume controls are now because the bridge volume control is right where the normal Tele volume control is. I think I can get used to the oddball switch location. It'll just have to have an extra pot hole. I'm getting reverse-zebra for the neck PU, and double cream bobbins for the bridge PU. Pete

Here's my WCR set: I might have to deepen the PU routes for the WCR's polepiece screws. The GFS set's screws didn't stick out very far, while the WCR set's stick out about 5/16". I'm using Strat knobs to cover up the slotted control plate hole. I did that so the volume control won't move much when I reverse the control plate. Pete

Pretty nice so far. A lot lower power than the cheap GFS set, but also a lot more dynamic. Still working on tweaking them.

Good to hear you like them, Pete. Thanks for the updates. Rich! Been over a month. I've got a mahogany body coming from USACG soon. It'll be a top routed body, drilled for a Hipshot Hardtail Strat bridge, and I'm moving the neck and WCR pickups to that. Going with a more standard wiring this time. 3-way Oak switch, 500K pots, and .022 cap. I only got this far so far, but I'll probably pull that guitar apart this weekend. Not going to do that reverse control plate this time. Can't decide yet if I should put a nickel cover on the neck pickup or not. Pete

I've had two sets...Fillmores and the BettsSet. Thought they were great pickups but I suppose the fact that I don't have them in favor of other sets shows they aren't my ultimate choice.
I love the Fralin PAF's wound with slightly unbalanced coils...towards the low output side. Gibson Burstbuckers aren't bad either.
I'd really love to try the Harmonic Designs since I'm really learning to re-love their Tele pickups.
