Well I guess I should have taken note on Rich's walnut build I left the top a bit oversized and instead of sanding it to size like Rich,I decided to use the router Well we had a tearout.Kinda weird,it didn't tearout much on the top, just on the side.Pretty sure the roundover wont take it out.I wasn't going to bind this one but I think it is my only option now.Well just had to post about it.I guess this is why Rich does this for a living.I guess we learn and move on

Don't feel bad, I've had bodies wrenched from my hands, and sail across the shop. Pisses me off every time, then I either fix it, or start again.. I do get weird about routing after too much time goes into a build, though. I'll use a rasp, sandpaper, spindle sander, scrapers.. anything to ensure that stuff "won't" happen...
The worst is when a finished body gets knocked on the buffer.. There goes the farm.
Your binding looks great- you might be able to fill the tearout in walnut without too much trouble, though. Try some Minwax High Performance filler, and a dab of brown stain, That stuff is tenacious, and stays put. If it doesn't work, then do your binding.

Well everything worked out. After I routed for the binding I mixed some shavings and CA glue and filled the hole. The binding route trimmed up the edge of the tearout so the only hole was under the binding Not sure if any of you guys are hunters but as I was on my way out to the shop,I had to put my rifle away after taking care of a coyote that was after our dog,and noticed the forearm of the stock. Not sure if it is walnut but it is some dark wood and it has a white/black tip on it Well,I got to thinkin

Looks nice! Do you have enough walnut to do a neck? It would really tie it in to do a walnut neck with matching binding. Not easy, but you seem to have a little masochistic streak...

I was on the Musikraft site the other day, and noticed they offer walnut necks now. If you call them say hello for me. Jim is a good guy.
