I'm on the verge of starting a build and I'm a "new" guitar player. Couple months in.
Anyway - just wondering what strings are suited for what style of play. If there is even a consensus.
Also as I understand it there are really only few "real" string makers, with many many "repackagers".
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm a firm believer in pure nickel strings over steel or nickel-plated steel for most electric applications. The tone, feel, and wear characteristics are what I like. With clean hands, a set of strings lasts a looooonnnggg time for me.
The best thing about strings is that you can experiment for fairly cheap. Buy a few sets and go to town. Try a few brands, gauges, compositions and see what works with your hands and instrument. Learn how to adjust your truss rod and saddles so that you're giving the strings a fair chance. If the instrument is still set up for your last set it will probably not perform at peak with the new set.
