Yep, It's coming around. Got some scraping and cleanup done tonight. Expecting more shipments next week, in the meantime I'll keep plugging away at it. Pretty guitar. ;D

Slow, but steady.. Hand inlaid real MOP blocks.. not plastic.

Looks mighty nice. ;D Are you going to use real MOP? It may be a bit more than I can afford though . .

Yep. Real MOP. Unfortunately, the fingerboard didn't meet my expectations. I yanked the pearl inlays, and sanded the face down flush. I just didn't like the looks of it, and thought the board was too thick of a slab. I'll redo the inlays in the next few days, and see if I will be satisfied.

Well Greg, looks like your lucky day. You must be living a good, clean life...
I went rosewood shopping today for a replacement fingerboard. I wasn't impressed with what I found, but I wound up buying two more cocobolo pieces- both very cool. I'll go take a couple of pics to see what you think-

Bear in mind these are flash photos, which is washing out the colors- These are all exceptional pieces of wood. They will all be darker once they are sliced, diced, and oiled. Which one do you like best?

Wow, all three are beautiful, and any of them would look great. With the tobacco burst, I'm thinking either A or C would look best. But I'm leaning more toward A.
Thanks, Rich!

LOL.. I thought "A" would be best for your build, too. It has some really pretty grain, and leans quite a bit more toward the browns than the other two. It'll be drop-dead gorgeous with the MOP block inlays.
Marty- It's good to have this place close by, but they charge very steep prices. These three boards cost me almost $90.. Then again, I love to be able to go through every piece of lumber to find the "perfect" piece for a project. I drop many thousands of dollars there each year.

OK.. Once I thicknessed and sized the new piece, I shot a couple of pics outside. The character comes through a bit better now. This is one to write home to the folks over! ;D

I did a little research on the cocobolo wood because I was curious to know if it was a bright wood. Well, I found out that although it's dense, people say it's very warm sounding. It's used on woodwinds, basses, acoustic guitars and other stringed instruments. It's gaining popularity not only because of the way it looks but also because people love the way it sounds. I can't wait to see how it will look with the inlays, binding and tobacco burst.

Greg, you will be knocked out with the cocobolo. I've used it extensively, and not had ONE complaint. Everybody who get their hands on it can't get enough of it.. It looks great, sounds great, and feels awesome. Slicker than traditional rosewood, but warm and woody. I've been inlaying since 6 am. Getting there..
