I got busy over the last couple of days, slicing and dicing wood.. I quartered up some boards, and jointed/planed/ bookmatched everything. I even made ash veneer.. This body will sport ten pieces of wood when all is said and done- it's looking great so far. Here are the bookmatched pieces I glued up yesterday Then I block sanded each layer to thickness, and glued up four layers Once the big sandwich had been glued up, I jointed and glued up the last set of lacewood (for the top) Once the glue had set for a few hours, I opened up the clamps and rough cut the main body, checked for thicknesses, then reclamped it. Now it will sit overnight. So far, so good. This will be a semihollow made from lacewood, then an ash accent stripe, mahogany core, another ash stripe, then lacewood. Not all the details are settled, but I needed to get it rolling while the conditions are good.

After a visit to the bandsaw, I ran around the edges with the oscillating spindle sander.. My old sander worked like always, the new one caught on fire.. yikes! Thank heaven I was able to put the fire out, or it could have been a catastrophe. So much for Harbor Freight tools... Anyhow, I did get some headway on the body- Here's a shot of the ash veneer I made, which will soon be covered up by the top And I got a sneak peek at the bookmatched top wood Gonna be another stunner! ;D

Great googly moogly! What a stellar combination of wood. She's gorgeous! I can't wait to see her once she's completed.
